孩子能學好英文，是毎個家長的期望。這篇《常用中小學英文單字1000字》，正是要幫助小學生藉著學習英文單字來提高英文水平。
本字彙表之制定係參考多種字彙來源，包括台灣教育部發布之「國民中學課程標準」參考字彙表、韓國小學課程綱要參考字彙、上海九年制課程綱要詞彙表、日本初中英語教材常用字彙、數種國內外兒童英語教材常用字彙，以及大學入學考試中心公佈之高中英文參考詞彙表中之最常用詞彙，和 Collins COBUILD 最新字典所制定之最常用英文字彙表(該字典是根據The Bank of English語料庫編制的)，綜合彙整，輸進電腦，建立一詞庫及字頻表後，並參考美國、英國、南非、及日本等國最常用英文字彙，最後再依中小學階段學生之生活經驗，及其學習英語之目標，與外語學習環境等因素加以篩選調整完成。

字 彙 編 列 原 則
- 除了這份依字母排序之字彙表外，課程綱要內還有依主題及詞性分類之字彙表。
- 字彙表字數之計算不包含括弧內之字詞。
- Be 動詞和助動詞do, have, can, will, may只列原形，其相關衍生詞均列在其後括弧內，如be (am, are, is, was, were, been)。
- 代名詞：I, you, he, she, it, we, they只列主格，其受格、所有格、所有格代名詞和反身代名詞均列在其後括弧內，如 I (me, my, mine, myself)。
- 括弧之使用，除以上(3)、(4)項之情形外﹐其餘括弧內之字詞為其前字詞之同義字，如yes (yeah), anyone (anybody)。
- 一般動詞均以原形出現，動詞變化不個別列出。
- 形容詞均以原形出現，比較級及最高級不個別列出。
- 名詞除了少數常以複數形式出現者(如pants)之外，均以單數形式出現。
- 本字彙表以主題及詞性分類表列出時，有些跨類的字詞會同時出現於不同類組(如chicken分別列於動物及食物類)。
- 片語 (phrase)，如get up, as soon as等不在此字彙表列出。
- 國名、地名、及語文名稱等專有名詞為數眾多，除了America, China, Taiwan, USA, Chinese, American, English外，其餘不個別列出。
- 以複合名詞出現的節慶名稱（如 Chinese New Year）只在主題及詞性分類表列出。字母排序字彙表中則僅列複合名詞之個別單字。
